What does it mean to be part of the "Las Escribidoras" Coommunity?

I am a UX Designer and what I like to do the most is being able to get to know the cities of the world from its Coolture, gastronomy, cocktails, art, its parties and its people.

That Matilde's profile crosses your path at an indeterminate moment in your life could be for several reasons: you saw her in independent design fashion photographs and you liked it, you saw her wearing green thanks to her feminist activism and you liked it, you read one of her tweets flavored with irony and sarcasm and you liked her or you saw her selling guamas in the city and you wanted to buy her one.

For whatever reason, you give her your follow and in August 2019 you read the good news that she will start with The Writers Club. An open club for women with which she invites each of her attendees to reconnect to writing without rules or grammatical pressure.

If you want to join a session, fill out the registration form and wait for Matilde to confirm your place by WhatsApp. I confirm you? Very good, the next thing is to arrive at her house at around 6 or 7 at night.

From then on the real experience begins :

You ring the bell and the first thing you see is a sticker of the Las Escribidoras logo, the door opens and she is screaming with happiness because you arrived, she invites you to continue and in front of you you have a dining room with 12 women around, Matilde in the lead for Of course, you sit down and you can't deny yourself the first wine of the night.

In my first session, Matilde began her introduction with this sentence: We are not writers, we are writers, so forget about having to write with formalities or rules, you feel free to write whatever you feel like.

The 12 women have to introduce ourselves to the rest of the others telling a little about your story and the reason that led you to attend the Club, that's when you realize all the ranges of women who seek in the art of writing the opportunity TO SER and then Kafka arrives, one of the cats that lives in Matilde's house who walks like a good master and lord of the home over the notebooks that Matilde has given each of us, having one of those notebooks in your hands makes you feel a certain responsibility to continue taking care of it, since previously other writers put their texts there.

When we have finished getting to know each other, Matilde exposes the topic that we are going to write about, I remember that in my first session the topic was “Let's change the Christmas joys” ufff it was about time it was done, I said.

There are 30 minutes of free writing and in the end whoever wants to share what they wrote can do so, we can all get into a listening mood and on many occasions we get into a therapist mood, as expected, thanks to the intimacy and privacy that is generated in the atmosphere of this space.

What did Matilde do to make this an experience?

  • Make sure you know from the start where you are located. (The sticker on the door)
  • She, like any good host, is the one who welcomes you to her home.
  • Prepare a table with food and wine, so you feel even more comfortable.
  • She takes on her role as moderator and energizes and interacts with her guests.

And after so many sessions with different women interested in attending them, a coommunity of more than 100 women who daily in the whatsapp group talk about topics of general or individual interest and who feed a little that feeling of well-being, company and brotherhood.

The result? A book with texts by Matilde and illustrations by Carolina, one of The Writers, so that the message of rebellious writing spreads to thousands more women.
